PvP / Re: Post Your Event Ideas Here
« on: February 17, 2021, 12:56:54 am »
I suspected champion decks were not fixed when I couldn't find them anywhere on the forum... this doesn't really change much to my proposal, though. Honestly, the whole Champion thing was just to give a bit of flavour, but the main part of my proposal was the way to evaluate decks by making each player fight against an ai-controlled version of each other player's submission. The subjective voting is just an extra part that I thought could encourage some players to be more creative with their decks, without interfering with those who just want to aim for the highest winrate.
I feel like using designated testers would create some difficulties compared to letting the AI play the decks (need to find enough people willing to spend time on this, deck performance depends on how well that particular tester can play that particular deck); I didn't know the "aivai" page that serprex mentioned, that could also be an idea. I still feel that having each player play against all other decks would increase the engagement with the challenge, letting player appreciate the creations of other people (and thus lending itself very well for the added popularity vote).

That said, I've never played in pvp tournaments because my messy schedule and weird timezone make it hard to schedule games against real players, but I would be more than happy to participate in a deckbuilding challenge, whatever the rules for that will be :D

Deckbuilding challenge idea: Build your own Champion

Each participant will build a deck for an AI of the level Champion. In the spirit of fairness we don't want our champions to cheat too blatantly, so Pandemonium 3.0 is banned; all other cards can be used. (note: I couldn't find champion decklists, ideally I would like to set a constraint on the number of upgraded cards to be on par with what the champion decks use)

Players submit their decks via private message to an organizer. When the deadline is reached, the organizer will make all the decklists public. Each player will then have to play 3 custom games using the deck they submitted against an AI using each of the other submitted decks, with 150hp 2mark and 2draw. Results for these games will also be submitted via private message to an organizer, along with a vote for the three decks that they found most interesting/original/clever (can't vote for your own deck).

Once all results have been submitted (or after a deadline, in which case all missing results will be considered as lost), all game results and votes will be made public. The deck winning the most games as an AI will be declared the Champion of War, while the deck obtaining the most votes will be declared the Champion of the People.

---

I've tried to come up with a way to easily evaluate decks: the challenge is that if players can play offline and submit results, even requiring proof like screenshots or replay codes there is no way to know if a player played 100 games and submitted the 3 best ones.
This way each player will be evaluating all other players' decks but not their own, so there is very little to gain from submitting fake results, especially if the results of other players' games are not known. Moreover, your deck only gains points when the AI is playing it, so this will be a true test of deckbuilding skills and your playing skills will not affect the result at all.

New Card Suggestions / Re: Nature guardian
« on: January 19, 2021, 03:27:37 am »
Exactly my point, silencing creatures is an interesting mechanic but it's all but unknown.

To clarify, the effect of silencing creatures (from the Silence card) is:
Quote
Silenced creatures cannot use active abilities until the end of their next turn

New Card Suggestions / Nature guardian
« on: January 18, 2021, 11:39:04 pm »
Nature guardian | Nature guardian
Cost: 3 :life | 2 :life
Creature stats: 3/4 | 3/4
Golem
Ability (passive): Whenever Nature guardian attacks, if there is a creature in the opposing slot that creature is silenced until the end of the next turn.

The silenced status for creatures is currently limited to the Silence card, which will generally be used on players, so it isn't actually seen much. I have tried to parallel what Epoch does and bring the status to a permanent effect with limiting conditions. The positioning of creatures on the field is another aspect that in my opinion should be relevant to more cards (I think only Brawl currently cares about that).
I put this in  :life since it's possibly the element with creatures focusing most on raw power over abilities, and this seems to fit the theme. Moreover,  :life doesn't have many ways to deal with opposing creatures and this could help cover this weakness without being a real CC.
Obvious synergies are mitosis and fractal, also interesting in a multicolour deck with lots of creatures and some self-sacrificing card like Cremation to be able to pick the exact spot you want this to appear in.
Cost and stats are arbitrary and open to discussion (but everything else is too :) ).

Fixed Bugs / Living weapon gravity pull invulnerability
« on: January 15, 2021, 01:11:50 am »
Bug found while testing Graviton Defender + Living Weapon

Here's how to reproduce:
1) Play Living Weapon on a Graviton Defender
2) Activate Graviton Defender's ability
At this point the weapon Graviton Defender will have gravity pull active, enemy attacks will still damage the player, but the defender will be able to counterattack every time without losing hps (I hope this is the intended behaviour)
3) Play Living Weapon on another of your creatures
Your weapon defender will come back to your hand, Gravity Pull won't be visible but still in effect on it and it will counterattack from your hand (!) until it dies and disappears... Then you somehow get permanent immunity from attacks as long as you don't activate gravity pull anymore (I guess they will still be targeting the dead defender)

I meant to attach a screenshot but can't seem to make it work. Deck code for testing:

I'm not sure I understand this... I guess the plan is to stall with Phase Shield while milling the opponent with Dream Catcher, but what's the purpose of Regrade in all this?

  • Play a scorpion+momentum in the first couple of turns.
  • Survive with antimatter/phase shield.
  • You win, well done.
Tested against demigods, works better than I expected.

Completed Game Suggestions / Two maybe bugs: silence & dream catcher
« on: December 11, 2020, 05:03:00 am »
Testing a new idea for a deck (could be nice: 0177c067820981q038100580k0180e0580u018pm ) I found two things that I'm not sure whether they are bugs or intended behavior:

- If opponent has Sanctuary, silence won't stop them from playing cards

- I don't get a copy of the card discarded by using dream catcher's activated ability

In both cases if this is the intended behavior a clarification would be nice in the card text (an extra "you cannot be silenced" in sanctuary, and changing "discard" to "destroy" in in dream catcher's activated ability)

Decks / Invasion of the spider cows
« on: December 08, 2020, 01:22:06 am »
076ve066uc0274t027hi017k0037nf017tb0581q0380i018pi

Playing with a serendipity deck against the AI I once got nightmared a micro spider cow when I had an empty hand and plenty of quanta... The result was hilarious, so here's my attempt to pack this experience in a janky deck.

Tidal healing works wonders with a bunch of aquatic creatures (you can even use it pre-fractal to help stalling). Shard of patience can help prevent a board wipe, speeds up the clock after fractal, lets you deal with small shields, and improves any guard/devour you get. Vampiric dagger is a good target for endow, mirror shield is just a good cheap shield. Scattering wind helps finding the right tools at the right time, which mainly means Fractal when you are reaching 10 aether quanta.

Quanta base is a bit awkward, we need lots of entropy and lots of aether but still enough of everything to fuel abilities.

Overall the deck is quite fun and can hold its own against champions, but I'd be eager to see any ideas you may have to improve it!
