General Game Discussion / OpenEtG's First Birthday
« on: November 24, 2014, 09:07:33 pm »
OpenEtG's First Birthday and Beta Version Release

OpenEtG is turning one year old! Join us in celebrating OpenEtG's first birthday, along with celebrating the official move from Alpha to Beta.

If you have never heard of it, OpenEtG is an open source "fanmade" game based on Elements. It has all the cards Elements has, and the same basic duel mechanics, but many new features and tweaks suggested by the community.

The game has been developed non-stop for the last year, and is finally complete as a game, though balance tweaks and new content is being added constantly. As the game itself is complete, the time has come to officially move to Beta, so we are celebrating from now until OpenEtG's first birthday on November 30th.

A few highlights:

Over a hundred new cards
OpenEtG has added over a hundred new cards to the vanilla card pool. Most of those cards are taken from the CIA subforum, such as Orochi, Alpha Wolf and Unstable Shapeshifter.

Countless balance changes
Many suggestions taken from the buff/nerf sections have been implemented, tested, tweaked, re-tested, and re-tweaked.

PvP Events
It's not too late to sign up for our latest Tournament WYSIWYP. Or maybe you prefer unrestricted PvP, like leagues? Fear not, for we have our own leagues too! The current (very first) season ends in a week, but it is not too late to join. If you still feel that is too short time, the next season will start right when this one ends, on December 1st. Be sure to join!

Booster Packs
Instead of having a bazaar with all the common cards for purchase individually, OpenEtG has gone down a different route: booster packs. The rarity system has been expanded, and there are a variety boosters to help you get all the cards, each one with elemental flavours.

Trading
OpenEtG has a well-developed trading system between players, so if your booster packs don't give you the cards you want, you can trade what you got to someone else.

Interface Features
A number of convenience additions have been added, such as infinite in-game deck storage and keyboard shortcuts.

Colosseum
Ever missed some sort of daily challenges? Well OpenEtG has them, in the shape of Colosseum. Beat a predetermined opponent, or maybe several random decks in a row. If you complete all events for a day, you even get a special prize!

Quests
Adventure on the mysterious Potatotal Island. In each quest you follow a story, face predermined decks, and can get great rewards!

If that weren't enough, to celebrate the birthday, from the time of this post until the end of OpenEtG's birthday (November 30th), anyone who makes a post in this topic, will recieve a reward code for 5000 Gold! Yes, you read that correctly, 5000 Gold! This sum is a great start to a new card collection, a great addition to an existing one, and 20 more Nymphs for those of you who are finishing up your collection!

Patch Notes & Development / In next Patch:
« on: November 04, 2014, 09:47:32 pm »
Card changes will now be focused on one weekly patch instead of random updates at any time.
On Friday new stuff will be released, and some fixes/balancing on the new content and such will be done the rest of the weekend.

Next friday:

Changes that were considered, but not applied:
Liquid Shadow makes target nocturnal
SoSa can target opponent (caster still loses hp). While offensive sacrifice is interesting, it's questionable whether buffing sosa is wise
Envenom not stacking. Provides questionable consistency, but breaking it has proven fruitless
Changing element of Writ of Vindication to :darkness

League / League Discussion and News
« on: November 04, 2014, 08:38:13 pm »
Similar to BL and CL on the vanilla forums, I thought we could have our own league for openEtG.

Basically it would be unrestricted PvP. Bans and allowed number of ups would be decided with your opponent before each match (default is no bans and 0 ups), and if you can't agree on something default will be used.

Will probably a short amount of time between a card is released and the card is allowed in leagues.

Just need to decide some basics:
Length of season.
Maximum number of times you can face your opponent (if any)
Minimum time until you can duel the same opponent (if any)
What kind of point system should we use?

Please discuss here.

Decks / GiveSingu
« on: October 29, 2014, 10:14:31 pm »
There have been many tries. Many prototypes. Pretty much all of them failed even against commoners. But today, a new buff has finally made this a viable deck. You can finally build a deck around "let your opponent kill themselves with singularities".

066u30671l057ka067q90580a0280h018pj

Combo is: Play 1 SN, play Tomb, play Give on Tomb, play second SN, play Lightning (another Give works too) on own Singu, and tada, opponent has a singu. If you think/know he has cc, be sure to use Quint on his new Singu. After the combo is played, you can stall with dials, kill his strongest creatures with lightnings (preferably play a tomb first) and/or save up for another part of the combo again. It will take a while, but eventually your opponent will have several strong AM'd vampire Singus on his field and you win.

This is just a first build with the combo, I am sure there are some mods that makes this better.

Works against Mages, also won a PvP duel with it.

Fixed Bugs / ZE Progress
« on: October 27, 2014, 07:19:11 pm »
ZE progress in library seems to count token cards too, which it obviously shouldn't. Can't fix because I can't seem to connect to server on this comp, will fix tomorrow if serprex haven't fixed it by then.

Unprepared

It hadn't felt all right to come to the duel completely unprepared, but you were supposed to after all. You saw your opponent on the other side of the arena, he looked as nervous as you did. You glanced on the chest to your right, knowing that when it opened, you would only have a short time to sift through its content and choose your gear. If previous duels were anything to go on, the duelist that took too long choosing their weapons were always defeated quickly. You changed your stance and got ready to run to the chest as you could hear the countdown getting close to zero...

Rules:
Before each match, you contact a third person in chat (either chats) to give you a random string of numbers and/or letters. Then both players can go to etg.dek.im/speed/*insert random string here* and receives a list of cards. Besides pillars, only these cards are allowed in that match. Also possible is to use "/roll" to obtain a seed
Any pillar or pendulum is allowed.
No upgraded cards allowed.

Note that the allowed-list will be different for each matchup.
You are of course given a little time to build your decks, but don't take too long. Try to start your first match within 15 minutes of getting the card list.
Try to finish the match in one sitting, do not take a longer break between duels unless you cannot avoid it.

Each match will be a best-of-3.
Note that you can switch decks between duels.
Tournament will be Double Elimination. The loser of each round move to Loser Brackets, if you lose there you're out. Final is between the winners of each bracket.

You must contact your opponent and schedule time with him, the tournament will not be happening on a specific time/date like the EtG tournaments.

Events / Future Tourney Rules
« on: September 16, 2014, 12:44:53 pm »
I got a few suggestions to change format, so please vote and post here.

Whatever you vote, it would be nice to post why you think this, this makes it easier to decide what the best format could be.

Of course we could have different formats for different tourneys, but having a default format is the best I think.

Other questions that you can answer here:

Should the tourneys remain completely unupped, or should we add an upped limit (say, 6 upped cards allowed per deck)? Or do you want a fully upped tourney?
Should we try another "Official Forum"-style tournament, i.e. we decide a time and all battles happen directly, like the tourneys on forum are? (Last time we tried this we had only 2 participants, so it was cancelled)
Anything else?

Really fun and fast. Be sure to use Immo on the Fungi even if you don't need the quanta right away, you get an extra one and the opponent gets 2 poison counters. Only really good against Mage I think, since this deck has no defense it has trouble to deal with opponents with higher hp.

Decks / Orochital

A deck I made a while ago:
046220b8080159b0677e0277c01n7c0477r0180i018pm

Play Gnome Riders asap, then play Diamond Shield. Fractal Gnome Riders and start playing Orochis. When you have lots of quanta, Fractal Orochi for finishing blow. The deck works unupped, but it is gonna be slower and have less defense. The more ups you have the better, gnomes and shields are probably best to have upped for it to work. The unupped cards are only there because I don't have the ups yet.

Art / Art Requests
« on: August 24, 2014, 12:07:01 am »
Here are requests for arts that are not card art. If you are currently working on or are soon planning to work on something on this list, please post here to make sure 2 people don't do the same art.

Rarity symbols
The dots we have right now work, but better, more shiny art is much appreciated.
Done, I added some color to it myself, although will change if anyone gives me nicer coloring.

Quest World map
The current quest map will get too busy eventually, and the plan is to eventually make a big world map with regions you can click on. These regions should then open up smaller maps similar to the one we have right now. I imagine the map to include lots of different environment, probably with all elements having its own part on the map.

UI stuff
Basically making the menus a lot nicer to look at. Including both art and design. Not a priority really.

Shiny Cardbacks
I have plans to add shiny cards to the game which does nothing more than normal cards, just there for collections purposes. To do this I need new, shinier art for the card backgrounds to use for the shiny cards. I have no specific plan for their appearence in mind, except that they should look a bit fancier of some kind than the normal art.
