Title: Community Deckbuilding challenge: a Gauntlet of Mages
Post by: Septima Rhay on November 30, 2023, 01:17:54 am
Community Deckbuilding challenge - A Gauntlet of Mages

Community members submit one unupgraded deck; those decks together will battle through a gauntlet of all 61 Mages (https://etg.dek.im/forum/index.php?topic=8.0). Your deck has 1 2 deck lives.  If your deck beats the current Mage target, the deck retains its life and faces the next Mage target.  If your deck loses, 1 deck life is exhausted and it will go to the back of the player submitted deckpool.  If it loses a 2nd time then both deck lives are exhausted and the next deck submitted by the community picks up the challenge vs the current Mage target. Community decks are sent to battle in the order of submission (posting to forum).  The order of AI opponents is all 61 Mages in their alphabetical order.  The event hosts will conduct the battles and share results.

Submitting a deck: post a reply to this thread with your deck code as follows:

Let's get this party started!
Wicked Spirit

I have given up on trying to create some monstrosity that can deal with everything, instead I'm pretending this is a relay race.

This should have a good matchup against the first three mages, then lose terribly to Beach. Someone else can pick up from there.

Edit: Since there are so few decks participating, I'm switching my submission out to a higher-performance deck.

The name comes from my having stolen the deck code from arena 1 way back before the georesonator nerf. If I remembered whose deck this was originally I would give credit, but alas, I did not keep that information. It may look like a giant mess, but it gets the job done. I occasionally go after champions with a variant that is all upped except for the novae.

While there's room for improvement, at least I wanted to place a deck even if its for bumping. the idea is using phoenixes for damage while beguiling opponent creatures into either regrade (to conserve them) or sacrificing them to the wicked shield for stalling.

Septima's edit, proposed improvement:
044sd0b5f0025gi025f3035fq065fc015fk025up035vd018pt

Reason for more regrade than beguile is that it can target creatures as a form of cc or upgrade wicked shield.

Each deck submitted now has two instead of one deck life.  If your deck loses, it gets to replay the current mage with its 2nd life.  In other words, when your deck loses twice, it's dead and the next community deck picks up the challenge.

This helps very very little. Pushing the deck to last in queue makes more sense.

According to my calculations, my submission will step up to contend with Golem, but should go on to stem the Growing Tide and take down Guru.
I hereby introduce you to a captivating defense, the original immovable object:

A Brick Wall

With non-standard quanta generation to avoid building pillars on shaky ground, versatile Regrading of threats & assets, and spanning the length and breadth of time as necessary, A Brick Wall will... Well, it's a stall deck, what are you expecting?

Also includes first-aid supplies, in case of food or arrow poisoning.

A month late, but here it is anyway. Haven't done this before, but in testing it did manage to beat a mage or two.

Junkyard Dogs
045630355r0a5aa0358t02592035930358v0258s018pl

Strategy is pretty straightforward. Deploy the salvagers, then wreck the opponents permanents with Pulverizers and earthquakes. Beef up the Otyughs with plate armor and let them chow down on the enemy creatures.

After 3-leg over, Mage Gauntlet is up.  Any submissions until I run the gauntlet will be used.

Intent is to deckout opposition, but has tools to kill / deny / delay in addition.

Unupgrade your deck to qualify it for mage gauntlet.
