Title: Tournament - Unprepared
Post by: Fippe94 on October 10, 2014, 08:11:17 pm
Unprepared

It hadn't felt all right to come to the duel completely unprepared, but you were supposed to after all. You saw your opponent on the other side of the arena, he looked as nervous as you did. You glanced on the chest to your right, knowing that when it opened, you would only have a short time to sift through its content and choose your gear. If previous duels were anything to go on, the duelist that took too long choosing their weapons were always defeated quickly. You changed your stance and got ready to run to the chest as you could hear the countdown getting close to zero...

Rules:
Before each match, you contact a third person in chat (either chats) to give you a random string of numbers and/or letters. Then both players can go to etg.dek.im/speed/*insert random string here* and receives a list of cards. Besides pillars, only these cards are allowed in that match. Also possible is to use "/roll" to obtain a seed
Any pillar or pendulum is allowed.
No upgraded cards allowed.

Note that the allowed-list will be different for each matchup.
You are of course given a little time to build your decks, but don't take too long. Try to start your first match within 15 minutes of getting the card list.
Try to finish the match in one sitting, do not take a longer break between duels unless you cannot avoid it.

Each match will be a best-of-3.
Note that you can switch decks between duels.
Tournament will be Double Elimination. The loser of each round move to Loser Brackets, if you lose there you're out. Final is between the winners of each bracket.

You must contact your opponent and schedule time with him, the tournament will not be happening on a specific time/date like the EtG tournaments.

I hope this is obvious, but just to make it absolutely clear: This is not played in Elements the Game, but in OpenEtG (http://etg.dek.im/).

Also note that this will be played with your accounts, not in sandbox mode.

What happens if we can't field a legal deck from the randomized list?
Title: Re: Tournament - Unprepared
Post by: Fippe94 on October 16, 2014, 01:41:43 pm
Since Pillars and Pends are always allowed, you can always field a legal deck.

Random card generating up and running at http://etg.dek.im/speed . All you need is a random string and enter it after speed/ in the url. For example if I say the random string is "thisisrandom", I can go to http://etg.dek.im/speed/thisisrandom and get a random list of cards. This string should be provided by a third party at the time of the duel to avoid duelists choosing/preparing a certain decklist.

Note that all lists consists of 7 random cards from 6 random elements, Chroma is not included.

I'm in, though I might wind up having a difficult schedule at some points. Also, I am traveling as of exactly when the countdown ends so I'm not going to be able to do my first match until next Wednesday (though I should be around much of the day on Wed). Fippe tells me the first round can last that long, so I'm hoping my first round opponent is somebody who's able to duel then.

Brackets posted, as well as Round 1 timer. Of course, you are free to play Round 2 matches as well, this is simply deadline for Round 1. If you cannot play your Round 1 match before deadline, try to at least schedule your match and then PM me.

Thought this might be useful, the /roll command has been added, so you can choose a really big number instead of asking somebody for a "random" string of symbols.

Since this is all unique speed building, posting decks

G2. Vader saders hates antimatter. I had hoped I'd yoinked the only AM, but alas. Should've held off endowing & made use of having 2nd vagger. Game where I misplayed the most, I need to learn to stick to hand vomit rushes
066250f61o0361t0361s0361v018pu

G3. Outrushed by a turn since psions bypass shields. I feel kirby could've maximized their winning chances by holding silences for breaking dim chains, but perhaps I overestimate phase shield vs psions
0g5oc015ol065or065p0015op018pr

G1. My only winning deck was my worst deck. Kirby had an all-pillar hand while I had an all-pillar & gryphon hand

btw, rico + beguile behaves so weirdly that we thought the game was bugging before deciding to void one of the matches.

Odin takes activity win over deuce.

New timer is up, and since Losers bracket lags behind, it's supposed to complete 2 rounds before deadline (it's only 1 match per round though), let me know if you think you can't complete the round in time.

The quanta disruption worked well in the early and middle games and I managed to bring him to 20hp even against a chaos mantle, but he managed to accumulate enough :entropy quanta to AM my nymphs and turn the game around.

G2/3 W (liquid antimatter, mirror match)

0d50u064vh054vn025up055uu018pt

His first deck was creatureless. Once I noticed what was up I stopped playing damage and won by deckout (random 31 cards deck ftw)

025010d50u054vh054vn025up055uu018pt

[Game of the match] Decided that the best move would be to keep with this strategy and take the deckout advantage one step further. He brought a 31 cards deck, so I had the deckout advantage. He had creatures this time, but instead of waiting to burst the damage he used lycantropy. After that, he emptied his hand, so I knew he couldn't counter my combo with more AMs, which meant me with 100hp and him taking damage. In the end those lycans died but he was already around 10hp and my own lycans finished him.
