New Card Suggestions / Air Loom
« on: November 01, 2024, 05:20:25 pm »
4 :air
permanent
:water :water: Generate a stack of mist mantle in the owner's shield slot.

Upped: reduce active cost to :water.

...Yep, the primary goal with this concept is a pun. Curious to see of it's actually balanced, though.

Really, Serprex, "cowbow"? Any cow deck needs some rainbow to take advantage of cow abilities. Do my two cow decks look that similar?

Ah, well. The first day was pretty rough for me, going 0-5 twice in a row. I have a hard time going 0-5, so going 5-0 means I worry that I've upset my opponent. The community here seems to be pretty good about taking both wins and losses easily, though, so that's been helping me to not completely freak out.
Spoiler for matches, chronologically:
Vs BigDieck
L Shazanymph V cyber/mindgate
L Flux You v Invisible Antimatter
L Cyber Crusade v phase spider rush that has inexplicable bone axes
L Cat-a-log v Self-reaping Scythes (That's a really cool deck, by the way. Nice one, Deick.)
L Permless vs Bo Stonewall (Bone Wall? Am I allowed to make that obfuscating portmanteau?)

Vs Serprex (I'm using your names for your decks, since you've shared them already)
L Fishin' Tetrad v monofire
L Cat-a-Log v pixiegon
L Zombohaunt v pestal
L Flux You v monofire
L Cattle Mono v pestal

Vs Septima Rhay
W Zombohaunt v Wise (AI-assisted?) Dragons
W Cattle Mono v Spark Bones
L Cyber Crusade vs Desert/Khopesh (Kinda reminds me of the nerfed black cat/desert mill. Seems very Septima-style)
W Fishin' Semi v Phantom Fractal
L Shazaquake v Hush Bo (Wow I always use too many actives, was this designed to be a me counter? lol)

Vs Muffins/OwlCityX1000
W Bug Log v Ghostmare (As soon as I saw the GotP, I predicted this and withheld cards.)
W Cattle Mono v ??? (I miscopied and only got the second half of the replay, oops.)
W Fishin' Tetrad v cow/goose rainbow - graboid version
W Zombohaunt v Ghostmare
W Cyber Crusade v cow/goose rainbow - pegasus version

Vs Asdw152 (you didn't name your decks, so I'm making up my own names for them.)
L Cyber Crusade v Inovative Graboids
L Cat-a-log v Nymph Fishin'
W Zombohaunt v Bone Wall Maul
W Cattle Mono v Damsel Fractal
W Bug Log v SoSac Sun (I think Asdw drew poorly. That looks like an interesting deck.)

Spoiler for decks, in alphabetical order:
Bug Log
064tf0252j02533035ck025cq025c8025m2025um035un025up066rv027130271b017ao017am018pk
This one I built right before the tourney started and had sitting unsaved in deck slot 3, where I forgot about it. Sepima asked to do some additional PvP after our matches, and after a few rounds decided to speedbuild. I checked my working deck slots for a place to speedbuild in, and rediscovered it. Won both times I used it, if only I had it more.

Cat-a-log
024tf014tc04533035ck025lm025vc045vj086rv0171f03719018pk
The pun that never dies! ...Okay, it dies a lot and inflicts increasing amounts of poison every time. I designed the original version during prototype testing before the additional arsenal was released, and rebalanced it to semi-upped for the tourney. A 6-poison, 5-life cat with three epidemics behind it is a force to be reckoned with if one can get there, but either I'm unlucky (blame the black cats!) or I failed to rebalance it appropriately for PvP.
0-3

Cattle Mono
034sa044sc024tc054sd024sh024vj0350a01508026qq016qs056uc026uq018pj
Another of my classic decks, this one was always semi-upped and easily adapted to the theme with the addition of a magic wand. I picked this because I figured everyone was encouraged to use weapons, so the obvious counter would be permanent control - and this one isn't reliant on the magic wand. Like all cow decks, very RNG-dependant. One time I got the wand and a million butterflies - not going to terrify anyone, as there's not much you can get zapping chroma. But other times, it was as effective as it is in PvE.
2-1

Cyber Crusade
035l8025mq015lg025m6025lm025lv055ll035m2047jo027la037mt03814018pu
When testing this deck, Mirror gave me a 32-cost yoink spell. (I challenge you all to acquire something more expensive.) I didn't put enough quanta in, thinking datashrink spam would save me, but alas, 'twas not the case in PvP. Also, it doesn't work if you bottom-deck the cyberweapons.
1-3

Fishin' Semi
095i4045jm015ij015ik015iu025i9027gk017i6017he047gm017n2037qt018ps
In PvE, the fish of the day was on the underwhelming side, but the one time I used it in the tourney, I reeled in a win. I had a lucky matchup, though, one well-timed dry spell took out a fractal's worth of phantoms and de-spirited Septima's deck.
1-0

fishin' tetrad
044sa074tg044sd0455r015iu0661t066uc017he018pp
Having polychromaticness in a fishing deck means that if you cast your line into your opponent's deck, you have more opportunities to play stuff. Reeling in ash and spores can be remarkably effective (shard golems and singularities, not so much). My win was against another spider cow deck and stealing my opponent's herd was doubly effective. I felt like I was being a little cruel during that match. Sorry, Muffins!
1-1

Flux you
034sd0655k0457602606015um035up035vd0175m0574s027n2018pt
The theory was, that people would be using a lot of weapons, so stealing and flying them would be a powerful technique. Reality did not meet expectations. Even during testing, this deck was prone to great or terrible draws, with steal/beguile ratios either matching or not with opponent's stuff. After an abysmal draw in my match against Serprex, I gave up on this deck.
0-2

Permless
064sh024vj014vf0352m025ch015f2055l9025rk046u3046u4018pj
Again, the plan was an anti-anti- perm deck. I got a decent draw and an early mutant dragon, but then got walled by a giant stonewall before I could land the final blow. I thought I had used it a second time and still lost, but I guess not.
0-1

Shazanymph
044vc0250u0350302508025i4015jm035ik015ig026ts036ve016uq026uj027gk027i6018pi
I cannot manage my quanta with this deck. I spent the whole time second-guessing my pillar/nymph ratio to make things work. Obviously, I guessed wrong.
0-1

Shazaquake
044vc0450u014vq024vo02596025930359i036ts036ve026uo026tt0277j018pm
I got a bad matchup. Cyberweapon, plus too many different PPM for a good quake, meant I couldn't lock Septima down. I also made some bad decisions on what to shazzam - once I let the blue mage siphon my warden, I was toast.
0-1

Zombohaunt
0652g03542055350253303537035v4037100272i027190271n0371b018pt
If I don't get a low-quanta opening against an early cyperweapon, this deck can rapidly raise an army of assorted undead. In testing, it really suffered from deflags, but I didn't face any PC during the tournament.
3-1
Good games, everyone!

It's October, the perfect time for orange and black decks!

Upped
035v4057440575m0474h047460375202745017n2017tg027u4018pt

The strategy is simple: haunt your creatures, then catapult them, then haunt and catapult their skeletons, repeat. The voodoo doll is a filler card I put in before I realised you can haunt the same creature multiple times to get multiple skeletons (great prep work if you get scythe before catapult) and so the deck uses more dark quanta. Not sure whether to swap in some sort of 'tech' card, a dark PPM, or what. Experiment!

Heal is really useful, too
0162k0171p0177j017ai017dm027n2047n8017q4078080281q038140680g018pr

Maybe I'm a bad nightmare user, but heal seems to be more effective. Maybe it's because I'm fighting PvE, though - on good matches, that +20 health can be enough for EM. I might even swap the earthquake out for another heal since champions tend to have too many different types of pillars to quake effectively.

Here are my magic wand decks:

Magic spider cow
074vc0650u03508024vg03505034vn066uc018pi
Magic wand x3
I have long been a fan of using regrade on micro spider cattle to 'reroll' a bad ability and get a stat boost in the process. Magic wand feels similar, with the added ability to reroll draws and being on a stick in exchange for a higher cost and an inability to target immaterial. Shazzam on a spider cow keeps bug and mutant tags, but shazzaming a non-cow into a cow does not give it mutant. Also, shazzaming a magic wand in hand into a monster gives that monster psionic. Haven't tested whether shazamming a cow in hand into another monster keeps mutant on play or not, but worth investigating. This deck could use more quanta.

Gooshazam!
084vc0750u024vj03508044vu025rg025t2025se018ps
magic wand x3
Similar to the classic mut-an-egg, except using shazzam instead of mutate to get dejas, scarabs, hognoses, and ghosts of the past. A nice rush. Extra cards can also be zapped into miscelaneous goodies.

And my feather decks:

Fierce Feathers:
Material Weapons
0c4te0459k045f1045fh035ir035p7018pn
feathers x3
There have been a few times when feather-throwing has earned me a win, but I'm not convinced that fierce feathers are more valuable than owl's eye in this. Mages don't have/use that many shields where feathering will make a huge difference.

Mono rush
075oc045pu035od025ot015pa035p7065or025op025of018pr
feathers x3
I'm not much of a user of mono air in general, so I went to standard (non-test) oEtG and played exactly this but with short bows instead of feathers and felt that I was doing just as well with a cheaper, equal damage weapon.
Spoiler for 'Feathers came in handy once':
{"date":1724285257132,"seed":-1307444349,"players":[{"idx":2,"ai":1,"name":"Whalelore","deck":"025f6045fb0c61o0463a0262f0262b0662i0661r018po","hp":125},{"idx":1,"name":"Niharia","user":"Niharia","deck":"075oc045pu035od025ot015pa035p7065or025op025of018pr"}],"moves":[{"x":"accept","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"accept"},{"x":"cast","c":12,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":21,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":22,"t":0},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":42},{"x":"cast","c":47},{"x":"cast","c":51},{"x":"end"},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":52},{"x":"cast","c":55},{"x":"cast","c":54},{"x":"end"},{"x":"cast","c":27,"t":0},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":59},{"x":"end"},{"x":"cast","c":3,"t":59},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":63},{"x":"cast","c":45},{"x":"end"},{"x":"cast","c":33,"t":0},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":58},{"x":"end"},{"x":"cast","c":8,"t":33},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":61},{"x":"cast","c":50},{"x":"cast","c":58,"t":27},{"x":"cast","c":58,"t":27},{"x":"end"},{"x":"cast","c":5,"t":63},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":66},{"x":"end"},{"x":"cast","c":36,"t":33},{"x":"end","c":0,"t":0},{"x":"cast","c":58,"t":27},{"x":"cast","c":58,"t":27},{"x":"cast","c":58,"t":27},{"x":"cast","c":53},{"x":"cast","c":68},{"x":"end"}]}

Conclusion: feathers need some help. Unless someone has a feathery doom deck that I haven't come up with yet?

I might as well share the decks I've been using. Unupped decks tested against mages, upped against champions. New cards unnupped (even in upped decks) unless otherwise noted.
Axe to Rule
0353d0356g035fh035ut0162k086qq016qs016qr02780027ki027n20281q018pl
Blanks: 3 skeleton axe / 3 scepter of ruling / 1 cyberweapon (that probably should be pulled out}
This is a fun little mess. Once you get a scepter and an axe in play, beguile -> bonesharper -> reinforce one of your creatures, preferrably the vamp. The most hilarious match I had the AI PUed my vamp only for me to merge the copy back into the original, three turns in a row. The deck is vulnerable to hush, immaterial monsters, mill, and bad draws.

Scepter of Fire
0655k065760456g045f9025ff035fq025fj015f6025oi0261p018pu
Blanks: scepter of ruling x 4
I'm not much of an immolation fan, but I had to try scepter+wicked, and this works. Scepter does most of the damage, so it's kinda slow. Weak against immaterial, mill, unstable gas. To do: upgrade and test vs champs.

Command and Control
064sd0855k055760256f0456g0156i01560037n2018pu
Scepter of Ruling x 4
The idea is to use chimera to keep your opponent's creatures on your side. Not sure why I put the regrades in, I think I have a regrade problem. Also flying weapon is mostly useless when your scepter gets glommed into the chimera. Still viable, though.

Axe You Over
0552g055420152v0252i0353d0252l02606015um025un045ut065vd018pt
Blanks: skeleton axe x 3
Not beguiles for me to feel comfortable playing this. I try to beguile too aggressively and waste my spells on small creatures, I think.
Mono Axe
0952g055420253c0353d0252l0352n055310252p0152r018pk
Blanks: skeleton axe x 3
It works, but I found it boring.

RainBug
024tc054sh064vj014vs0158p035ck035ca045f1045od015ok015un01620018pn
Blanks: infested log x 3
My first attempt at a log deck. Pillarless. It only started working after the log got nerfed (phase recluse + nightshade + rejuv + bugburst was so overpowered it was hillarious). Maybe I should put in a flying weapon, so I can see if two logs makes double poison? Or mitosis?

EpiLog UU
024sd0352g025420452j02533055bs055de035ck045c8015c4015cv025ce018pk
EpiLog +
077100572i027190471j0371b027bu037b4057au017n2018pn
log x3 - upped for the + version.
EpiLog is a good pun and an okay deck. But it has so many weaknesses. Maybe if I was smart enough to use self-plague, or include dry spell mycologist-style? This requires further study.

Wicked with a Scythe
095f0055gi025fq015fu025f6045fc025f2025v1025v4025vg018pt
Blanks: scythe x 2
This is basically the Wicked mage but with scythe x2 instead of vampire stiletto.
Wicked 2
095f0055gi025fq015fu025f6045fc025f2015vf015v1035v4018pt

Blanks: scythe x 3
Streamlined to get better results.

desert Sun UU
034sd045fr015fp0c5rg065t2045sf045rl065sc018po
Sun blade x 4
I was lurking when a fully-upped version of this deck was posted into the chat (and I forgot to make a note of whose work it was, either asdw or... whoever asdw was talking to). I haven't gotten enough of the new weapons to test up (other than log), so I downgraded the deck, added the regrades (to get the 2 def appreciation), and made a few other tweaks. Pretty nice mage farmer. I can't to ouei to save my life, but with the max health + unupped + deckout, this might be something to watch out for.

DISCARD EVERYTHING
034sd045i4055jm035j3065in015rg015t2045s1035s2018ps
amulet x 3
Okay, not my best deck name, but it burns through your opponent's cards like nobody's business. Regrade clepysdras for longer function, or to just get cards out of your hand so you can keep stealing the opponent's deck. Hard countered by pulvy, struggles against PC in general. Mist shield because I can play them all without 'wasting' the card.

BoSader
095l8065mq035ld045m5025lf015lv055ll018pq
Bo staff x 4
This was a good deck when I first put it together, then something changed so that if I let even one Bo-endowed crusader attack, it reset my shield. Afterwards it struggled to do damage and maintain wallhood.

VR Whales
034sd025oi0c61o0362k0361t0562i0562c018pr
cyberweapon x 3
The first cyberweapon deck I made. For a while I was getting an acceptable W/L against champions, but I think it may have been a fluke. Or the AI not having a reasonable threat evaluation for cyberweapon? Don't know if those numbers have been put in.

Bootlegged Readiness
025oi035or0761o0363a0462k026200661t037ap018pr
Cyberweapon x4
The idea is, by reducing the cost of your creatures, you get 0: mitosis. But it takes too long to set up to ever be reliable, and one rewind will undo your hard work.

I remember making a fierce feathers deck, but I can't find it in my decklist and I don't remember if/how well it worked. I didn't notice the remade magic wand until I was looking through this thread, so I'll try exploring the new shazzam.

I'm tired of not being able to tell if my axe is antimattered or not, even though now that it's been nerfed it's less absolute value to be worried about. I was experimenting with backgrounds and ended up with two that I kinda like. Not sure which looks better, so here are both.

Okay, here goes. One log and one cyberweapon. After I drew the cyberweapon I started worrying that perhaps it should be a ray gun instead, but since it doesn't have the 'ranged' tag, I figured this would be fine. What? How dare I draw a cyberweapon traditionally rather than digitally!

General Game Discussion / Silly Match Replays

Just as there's a thread for double-1st place flex thread, here's a thread for replays of matches that seemed really cool/funny/etc. Perhaps this should go in 'Off-topic' along with the double-flex thread, but... that one kinda is game discussion, so perhaps that one should go here? I don't know, that's not my speciality.

Anyways, my shard of serendipity just showed me an exciting card combo...
