Deckbuilding Competition: Puns, Memes, and Riddles

Build 1 deck and give it a name. This deck should represent a pun, meme, or riddle. There are no deckbuilding or decknaming restrictions. This is a vote by popularity competition. You may accompany your deck code using text, image, sound, screenshots if you want (1) to help clarify the meaning of your submission or (2) a bit of flair - say a short poem that enhances the enjoyment of your pun/meme/riddle. This non deckcode 'flair' can be taken into voters consideration but emphasis is given to the deck and name - not how well written a story was. Keep flair concise. There are no 'performance' expectations for decks, but they should be 'functional' in the sense you can play the cards vs. being there as as visual placeholder. Voters might consider if the deck is also 'fun to play'.

Submit decks to Septima Rhay by forum or discord private message. April 20th is the deadline. Voting will commence after that and the decks will be presented anonymously.

I enjoyed seeing these deck submissions. 9 players found it attractive enough to submit a deck. We have a fellowship of the pun heading to dark comedic lands.. Voting was very close with 3 decks getting 5 votes, 2 decks getting 4 votes, 1 deck getting 3 votes, and 3 decks getting 2 votes. Each deck met the event theme well and attracted votes. Rewards will be dispersioned soon.

Clever pun with thematic cohesion of desert, jelly, fire eater and otyugh. I'm not sure I get disc/silence. Byt would be a good card...thematic plus a cheap target for jelly while also buffing other cards before getting jellied. Creative deck. As for actual functioning, desert will have anti-synergy with its own creatures and otyugh/scarab. Could also move this deck in a more stall functioning direction.

To my knowledge, I do not recall the pairing of Jelly and Desert. It's a very clever cc combo. It inspires more exploration. Nicely done, Plein.

Straightforward Fire deck. I actually laughed out loud when I saw this. Monofire is somewhat of a meme in the history of Elements. It's such a strong deck that when you 'see red' you might think 'oh no'.

Enjoyed this deck very much. My favorite. The way I would build AND name thematic decks, too. Every card fits and synergizes thematically and also function well together. This is a deck that soothes my heart and eyes.

I understand the cultural reference just enough to know it is thematically synergistic. Deck also functions well. It doesn't 'speak to my heart' but its a strong submission for the pun/meme theme.

This deck is tied for best 'name' with Wallop. The name/title itself is perfect. Neko meaning cat in Japanese and playing off of necromancer and death. Absolutely clever. The deck code isn't as novel as others but functions well.

Only submission to go for the 'riddle' aspect. And it works very well..highly deserving of the tied first place. I think the deck code could be more tuned and potentially lean on material. Here's how I'd move it towards material: boom, rage, and tornado all befit a 'tantrum'. Throw rock also thematic.

Boflex was one of my 3 votes. I think people didn't get the full meme here. Which required understanding the old card art for stone skin (bulging muscle) and the mass market gym product - Bowflex. This is a layered and nuanced meme, quite advanced actually combining a new card (Bo staff) with old card art (stone skin) with a commercial product linking the former (Bowflex machine). The meme was too strong for people to get. Solid functional deck, perhaps not as creatively built as some of the others.

Full meme deck. I enjoyed it and it plays satisfyingly. Ofc phase shield is what strengthens this deck to be more playable vs. AI targets. Well built/tuned, good use of cardinal quanta and chroma mark for egg offspring.

The best pun 'title'. Can't get more clever than that. Wallop = Wall OP. It's a double pun. The Wall is not only Overpowered but turns into a weapon after wall is imbued to defender. Then wall goes and 'wallops' the opponent. Like Boflex, Wallop might be over the heads of some of our voters. This got one of my 3 votes and I considered it my 2nd choice after Sauna and before Boflex.
